| Health & Medical Care, a General Statement |
Gingrey: Last Thursday thousands of physicians from across the country descended upon the Capitol to declare to the American people that the AMA does not speak for the majority of physicians in America in their efforts to support ObamaCare.
This was truly a grassroots effort among doctors and I was proud to join them to declare that we do have the right prescription for America’s healthcare system. HR 3400, the Empowering Patients First Act. This solution is centered around four main principles:
1. Access to Coverage for All Americans: The Empowering Patients First Act makes the purchase of health care financially feasible for all Americans, covers pre-existing conditions, protects employer-sponsored insurance, and shines light on existing health care plans.
2. Coverage is Truly Owned by the Patient: This legislation grants greater choice and portability to the patient, and also gives employers more flexibility in the benefits offered. It also expands the individual market by creating several pooling mechanisms.
3. Improve the Health Care Delivery Structure: Physicians know the best care for their patient. That's why this legislation establishes doctor-led quality measures, ensuring that you get the quality care you need. It also reimburses physicians to ensure the stability of your care, and encourages healthier lifestyles by allowing employers to offer discounts for healthy habits through wellness and prevention programs.
4. Rein in Out-of-Control Costs: A key concern in positive reform is reining in out-of control costs. This legislation does this by reforming the medical liability system. Also, the cost of the plan is completely offset through decreasing defensive medicine, savings from health care efficiencies, sifting out waste, fraud and abuse, plus an annual one-percent non defense discretionary spending step down. | Reducing Health Care Costs |
Gingrey: Reforming our nation’s healthcare system is one of my top priorities. Before coming to Congress, I practiced as a physician for 30 years. My experience helps me understand how important affordable, high-quality healthcare is to Americans.
Our healthcare system faces some challenges, and I’m committed to strengthen our national health policy. I support market-oriented reforms that provide healthcare consumers with affordable medical options.
Our healthcare system should reap the benefits of preventative care, helping Americans avoid disease and illness before they occur. Patient safety, long term care, and preventative medication can all help in this pursuit.
In addition, Congress must enact laws that provide a safety net for the poorest of the poor while creating incentives for families and individuals to save for their health expenses through consumer-driven investment accounts.
Healthcare is a unique issue that affects everyone in our community, from the youngest newborn to senior citizens and everyone in between. I promise to keep fighting for high quality, affordable care.
It is apparent by the number of states choosing to opt out of the Democrats’ proposed government run plan that the American people do not want this health care reform to get rammed through Congress. Our nation is suffering from soaring unemployment numbers and Americans simply cannot afford the higher taxes, higher premiums, and stifling debt this bill places on our families and children.
